People from the RoC are actual Chinese and still maintain much of traditional Chinese culture. People from the PRC have no culture thanks to the cultural revolution and are basically a bunch of drones that obey the central government. It is very important to know the difference between the two.
The quickest way to get under the skin of a mainlander is not to call "Taiwan" a country. But to call the RoC the only legitimate Chinese government.
