The work itself was easy, but it took all of my energy to be able to properly interact with customers with a smile on my face on a daily basis. Although there were likely many many times where the mask was transparent, I really did my best though, and people seemed to notice my hard work even though I felt like I was running at 50% all of the time.
I hated it, but it was necessary a experience that gave me more to put on my resume.
If you don't live in a city, maybe you can find some more quieter retail work around that isn't as stressful. I was lucky enough years ago that I got hired at my local convenience store, it wasn't even a busy place but it still took so much social energy out of me...
Well just keep trying. It'll all work out somehow.
