Less dedicated viewers who want chat interaction or don't know the person you are collabing with won't watch. And it's very noticeable if two people don't have chemistry or are just starting to get to know eachother, so more viewers will dip if it ends up being too awkward to watch.
Collabs are for the streamers already know eachother and want to do something cool, knowing that some portion of both of their audiences will be interested. They aren't for networking, getting your name out, leeching viewers, or any other business/numbers shit, and it's very transparent when someone is trying to collab for those reasons.
Collabs work in hololive because people are fans of the brand. If holomems have no chemistry and the collab is shit, people will still watch it because it's interaction within a group you already like. And chat interaction doesn't exist with streamers that big anyway so you don't lose anything, unlike with indies where you live and die by how you work with your chat.
