Landlords are seen as “immoral” or whatever because they’re essentially providing a necessity (shelter) that someone else pays into continuously without any return when owning your own property would be preferable. It’s like a really steep property tax to the tenants.
On the other side of the argument, if you’re renting out apartments there’s lots of times you expect that they can’t pay but you let them stay for 2-3 months before kicking them out, by then they’ve trashed the place. This is really common in poor parts of the US, might be different if you’re renting out is a townhouse or something with >1,500sqft.
I think without knowing the details, people will continue to hate the idea of landlords because it’s basically passive income that people with money can use to generate more money. It’s also hard to think of an alternative when you’re trying to live somewhere urban where housing prices are way too high to justify the location.
