if you objectively look at Vtubers it's hard to not come to the conclusion that they're an all around unhealthy phenomenon. They're content creators who feel as though they could be more successful if they weren't themselves. That lack of upfront authenticity might be appealing to some (escapists), but people value authenticity over most other qualities in streamers (and more broadly in artists). Being a vtuber at all is making a passive admission that you don't have confidence in your natural appearance and personality.
The money spent on chubbas is disproportionate to the service they provide. As there is tremendous animosity towards titty streamers who take advantage of their looks to garner a following. There is sure to be a similar group who feels this way towards those who portray themselves as cartoon characters to do the same.
Normal people don't recognize the anime tropes many characters are based on. Even if they did, it's hard for them to get past the hypersexualization of these characters. Those who portray themselves as children or with exaggerated double d titties are especially vulnerable to derision from normal people.
