Something about it being short, easily memeable since you can see it everywhere (Max Payne, max settings, any game character with the name), and unisex. But the name change in itself was mainly because she felt that "chat" was too cold and impersonal. Initially she referred to chat as "Cha" as a result of a typo on a minecraft sign that stuck around as a running gag, but one stream she set up an entire powerpoint presentation declaring us as Max and it's been that way ever since, including the visual representation as cotton candy fluff balls.
