the first game was basically the next diablo game people wanted when diablo 3 was a disappointment for lots of people.
this one is looking to take that and try and bring it to the next level whilst also trying to be a bit different from it's predecessor and tuning down/removing some of the stuff that IMO kinda hurt PoE1 in the long run (utility flask meta and movement skill zoom zoom were some of my biggest caveats)
most notable for it's expansive skill tree that makes characters more like a base to work upon instead of being class-based like diablo and other ARPGs
