>>52372414>I am not sure how true this because Firefox supports avif without itFirefox uses its own built-in libraries to decode AVIF. the Windows AV1 extension gives Windows itself support for decoding AV1, and allows the shitty "Photos" app to open AVIF - same way the HEVC extensions let it open HEIC.
>sadly I just found it today.oh, I thought you'd seen me sperging out about it way back when I started compressing the thread MEGA.
>AVIFinterframe video formats are not meant for image storage. AV1 is extremely fucking slow to encode.
JPEG-XL supports LOSSLESS conversion FROM JPEG to JPEG-XL. Meaning you can take a JPEG, convert it to JPEG-XL, and then convert it back, 1000 times, and get the same file on either end, every single time. And it saves like 20-40% easy. Plus you can still use it for actual lossless i.e. converting a PNG to JPEG-XL
>Thought the problem with JPEG-XL was it has licensing costs. The problem with JPEG-XL is that a gigafuckingfaggot at Google that is PART OF THE WEBP TEAM disabled the experimental JPEG-XL support in Chrome. Literally the only obstacle to its usage is Chromium not supporting it. It mogs AVIF and WEBP hard...
I have been using it locally for a month now, mostly on old photobooks and such. I love it>Irfanviewgod damn, I haven't heard that since the 90s, they're still around?! After I started using XnConvert I checked out XnViewMP and I love it.
but I actually just use Windows Photo Viewer after re-enabling it, lol. It supports JXL with some DLL I downloaded.
