The publisher, Nexon is basically the black sheep of gatcha publishers. They are widely derided for basically exporting new games, running it on basic life support to milk money, and shutting it down when it stops bringing in money. (As opposed to the somewhat more common practice of trying to fix the game or add more content/events to save a dying game). For reference, I think 40% of the online PC games are now defunct outside of Korea.
Given their reputation for quickly dropping games and ruthlessness, I suspect part of the fear of the community is diverting money to a vtuber project would be a dead-weight on the game, putting it at higher risk of being killed off. Not sure that's necessarily a valid worry given Blue Archive has been a smash hit by Nexon standards, but it's understandable they think that.
