Please keep in mind, this is not saying that the talents have anything wrong with them. This is purely from a tech/artistic viewpoint. (4 categories below: Rigging/Animations for Live2D, Game Permissions, Lack of Non-Gaming Content, and 3D Models Animation Facial Tracking) TLDR at bottom (also pic unrelated, just thought Kronii being time related lore wise was a good choice)
-Rigging/Animations Live2D-
1. Compare for example the absolute incredible rigging(animations) of Dokibirds live2d model, then look at say Gura's (who up until recently was stuck with a model from when she first debuted, and the animations/rigging look so dated in comparison) even Guras redone updated model still doesn't compare to Dokibirds (just as an example) in terms of tech advancements in rigging
2. There are countless indie vtubers with no corporate backing, and yet they have higher quality rigging then the most subscribed vtuber? You gotta admit, as wealthy as hololive is, that seems like a bit much.
-Game Permissions-
I get it, we've probably all had these discussions already so I won't say too much here, but you do gotta admit, its a tad annoying that when a new game comes out, you might not even see your favorite Holomem play that game... until it becomes irrelevant where no one wants to watch it as much. And what's left if not the new game? Stuff you've already seen, such as Minecraft. (Nothing wrong if you like watching it, but if you're someone that wants something different, you're left seeing the same over and over) If you're looking for new viewers etc. not getting the new viewers attention with a new game at its peak can mean losing potential new subscribers.
-Lack of Non-Gaming Content-
I know for some, you're content with just chatting or a game and that's fine, but for other Vtubers out there who are doing non-gaming content such as talking about the latest thing that non-vtuber content creators are doing, and giving their unique spin on it, or making memes out of crazy real life scenarios, this is definitely something Hololive doesn't do much of, in comparison to other Vtubers out there (typically indie).
-3D Models Animations Facial Tracking-
Look at someone like rosedoodle from twitch

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2316831965 is a good example. Crazy facial tracking, and yet in comparison Hololive's facial tracking
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqiU63uqC9U is a good example. Look how stiff their facial tracking is. It looks good sure, it's a little stiff, but is it able to move with the user's actual face movements on the same level? Nope.
TLDR: Hololive might have the numbers right now in the short term, but in the long term if they don't change things, they are setting themselves up to be outdone.
