>>89078244I don't think there's any reason to hate on people who learn Japanese to watch JP vtubers. But there's not a huge lot of incentive for the average person to care about them or learn Japanese if they already have EN vtubers they already enjoy. Early vtubing would be like if anime had no subs or dubs. If the only way it was possible to watch anime was by learning Japanese, and the only anime content available in your language was short fan translated clips, you would be much more tempted to learn Japanese. English vtubers increased the supply of vtubing content in our language, and lowered the demand and need to learn Japanese to enjoy vtubers. Continuing with the anime analogy, most people will just watch subbed or dubbed animes instead of learning Japanese to watch series that haven't been subbed or dubbed. A great JP vtuber might be the equivalent to a great anime, but most people would rather watch a lesser anime that's still enjoyable (an EN vtuber) if it's been subbed or dubbed in their language. Also people will always remain skeptical that JP vtubers are as great as people claim since they can't speak the language. Perhaps after investing a significant amount of time and effort into learning Japanese. They'll find that the Japanese style of humor and entertainment just isn't for them.
