It seems more straightforward and easy to pick up just to down the line of "Player one places something on the stack/chain. Player 2 gains priority and may respond. If they do not player 1 regains priority and may choose cast another card or activate an ability if they can do so" then repeat down the stack. If you go down and are unable to cast an instant it might leave players wondering "why couldn't I respond to that if I can cast this card at anytime?". It also allows more technical play and timing by having it be more freeform like listed above.
