No matter what you'll do you need to buckle down. If you decide to quit you can do vtubing as a side no pressure hobby, but you still need to be frugal with your money and work if you need a proper model and incapable of producing one for yourself.
If you go indie you have to accept that you will probably be a perpetual single digit viewer. I sometimes tune into one that has been at it for a year and I mostly see them have 3~7 viewers and they stream at least three times a week.
So it is up to you if you want support or be stress free. Of course they'll want money, they either paid or made your model, it isn't money grubbing. You just went into a path in which they expect certain sales and you just aren't viable for the quota at the moment. As long as you know that your success as a vtuber at this moment has nothing to do with you as a person it's fine.
