Another chapter in From a Person Who Will Die in Three Days
>>12209642>You got yourself showered and dressed, putting in the bare minimum of effort>This was going to be a pain>You got into your car and drove an hour into the countryside>You hadn’t been anywhere close to here in nearly a decade>It reminded you of your youth>Camping, hiking, full of imagination>Happy>You pulled up to the side of the pumpkin patch, a large farm overlooking a massive field of pumpkins and behind it, a large corn maze.>It felt serene>Maybe this wasn’t such a bad idea after all>Just as you pulled in, Moona’s car pulled up next to you>She excitedly got out of the car, dressed as a witch, and greeted you>”Anon! Hi! You came!”>You smiled>It was a half smile, but a genuine smile>First time you had one of those in a while, at least when it didn’t relate to some stupid video game>Her joy had an infectious quality to it>She was so happy to see you despite the fact that not a day earlier you’d completely brushed her off>To a solitary creature like you, this was very strange>”Hi, Moona. You look good.”>Moona smiled and did a twirl>”Thanks. I special ordered it. I even got a wand and a magic grimoire to go with it!”>You thought it a bit cringe, but you were a bit jealous at the same time>She was around your age yet magnitudes happier than you were>And over a simple Halloween costume no less>Perhaps being her brand of autistic wasn’t so bad considering the joy>You and Moona walked into the farm>It was something of a dump, but it had a charm to it>Hung from the tree at the center roundabout were cheap ghost cutouts>To the left resided a bunch of goats, pigs and sheep in a petting zoo that smelled almost worse than death>To the right stood the pumpkin patch>At the center stood a barn, converted into a haunted house>You felt like a kid again>Normally this sort of thing would leave you put out and exhausted, but this felt like a trip down memory lane>You’d not been here specifically, but you’d been at a few places like it>You would always get the most excited among your sisters>In a way, you were just like Moona when you were younger>Even you couldn’t maintain your usual aloof persona in the face of it>”So, what should we do first? We need to do the pumpkin patch last, too heavy.”>You put your hand to your chin>”Why not the petting zoo?”>Moona’s eyes lit up>”With all those cute goats?”>”Yeah.”>You both walked to the pen, more accurately a stye, and Moona pouted>”There’s a fee!?”>You raised your eyebrow>”You came here without any money? You know the pumpkins aren’t free right?”>Moona looked slightly embarrassed>Normally you were tight fisted with your cash>But what’s a corpse need money for?>You paid ten dollars and motioned her in>”You paid for me? That’s so nice!”>Moona gave you a big hug and you felt your tummy fill with butterflies>You couldn’t recall the last time a girl who you weren’t directly related to hugged you>”You coming with?”>”You want me to?”>”Of course!!! I didn’t come out here just to do this all on my own.”>You paid the extra ten to the doorman and followed her inside>With a childlike joy, she pet the pigs and goats>You knelt down and scratched the head of one of the sheep>You used to be passionate about animals, had a special way with them>Even the more nervous among them seemed to trust you without hesitation>Memories flooded back into you>It was like looking at another person, while still looking at you>A person who was young, hopeful and happy>When did you become so bitter?>”Anon look at this!”>Moona had her face squished against one of the sheep, her hat resting on both hers and its head>”Isn’t he so cute?”>”Yeah. He is pretty cute. So are you.”>”What did you say?”>”Oh uh… nothing. I just said he’s cute.”>”No, I mean after that.”>”Come on. We should go see the corn maze.”>Moona stared at you quizzically and followed after you>”Bet I can find the center before you do!”>Moona charged forward>”Wait!”>You chased off after her>Despite the size of her… chest, she was surprisingly quick>She must need at least two sports bras for a load that heavy>You ran after her, left, right, right, left but had lost sight of her completely>You groaned>Perhaps this wasn’t a good idea after all>You called out after her>”Moona!”>”Over here!”>She walked back to you, covered in sweat and panting>”You run fast for a girl.”>Immediately, you mentally facepalmed at the fact you just said that out loud>”Thank you. Lots of practice.”>Right over her head>Moona straightened her witch hat and smiled>”For a boy you run very slow. You don’t get out much?”>You pouted>No need to rub it in>You both ventured on to the center of the maze, for what reward you didn’t know
