>>84809765It's mostly because of the weird way koikatsu does shading. Sure, there's lots of modded shaders to play around with (I have my own favorite style), but lots of more advanced KK artists will throw colored shadows and translucent shapes to make lighting real neat in photos.
The jank you're used to seeing is the same reason why you see so many shitty iwara dances -- because most are copied and pasted without any thought to how to make the shading fit the character better/without adjustments to hair and body positions.
