They (well, we) were like this toward any criticism shortly after debut too. And it was pretty much the same reason: she had a lot of shitposters and schizos targeting her.
That is to say: Nothing actually changed about the fanbase, this is just how people get when the shitposting is bad enough that there's no point engaging with the rare legitimate criticism. And it doesn't help that /vt/ is such a cesspit that even if you DO mean something genuinely, it'll be at least a day at most before shitposters add it to their rhetoric. Any actual discussion of a vtuber's perceived issues are doomed to failure, it's just how the board is. Sorry to tell you.
