My first exposure to vtubers was Kizuna Ai. Other Vtuber at the time didn't really catch my interest except Noraneko and her accidental face reveal.
Someone at twitter uploaded clips of Siro like the one in minecraft where she screams in horror as she discoverd a wolf had devoured her sheep. I began to notice that other Vtuber out there are also pretty funny.
Corona happened, lots of people are stuck at home doing nothing, people on /v/ started posting clips form hololive. The one clip I remember the most was the series of clips from Aqua's and Shion's minecraft neighbour dispute. Seeing a bunch of vtuber interact with each other instead of a solo really appealed to me so I ended up watching more hololive clips.
In may, Coco made some kind of advertisement that auditions for Hololive EN has started, but because of her earlier Coco Kaine video I assumed it was another joke. Several months later, the real HoloEN get revelead and I learned that she wasn't joking this time.
Now, almost everyone wants to be a Vtuber. I expect things to quiet down when the pandemic is over and people return to there regular life. I'm still keeping my eyes open for indies hoping to find a diamond in the rough.
