If /vnug/’s climate condition’s similar to Finland then normally it would suffer from a similar lack of water during early growing season where it’s most needed (while the reverse is true in late season) so if the snowmelt comes in late spring-early summer (which seems likely since the river source’s further north) then using them should help feed the farmland that would be too dry otherwise. Drought might hinder plant growth (sounds reasonable) so proper irrigation during the growing season might be vital for /vnug/ agriculture given its short growing season to begin with. Among the crops grown in Finland, oat grows the fastest (~60 days) while other crops usually take another month or two which should just fit into /vnug/’s 50+ season. Barley’s the main crop in Finland and the few papers I skim say many of them are irrigated with snowmelt so they should all fit well together. On a related note trees also take a decent amount of water to grow ( ~10 gallons per inch diameter per week according to Google) so irrigation should be useful for tree farms as well
