They're just not talked about by most people in Japan so you don't really find many japanese streamers or viewers aggressively into politics or activist causes, while signalling some form of political affiliation is basically expected in the west.
Something like pic related could have never happened if hololive was operating with western sensibilities in mind because the woman here is a conservative politician. This event was made fun of by both japanese leftists and right wingers (because it's effectively the equivalent of an EN member high-fiving a Republican governor) but they had no effect on anything because they're a complete outgroup to vtuber fans and companies in Japan.
