So they say "I AM NOT YOUR FRIEND DONT EVEN THINK I'M YOUR FRIEND!" and then tell you to buy their merch (which most of the time has no use other than to signal devotion), have sleeping streams/GFE ASMRs or divulge their personal life as if the audience IS their friend.
When someone's your actual friend they don't just get to borrow your stuff, hang out with you, get gifts for birthdays etc. they also have to cheer you up, listen to your complains, endure arguments, personal tragedies etc.
It's not that westoid streamers/vtubers don't want to be your friend, it's that they want to be an exceptionally shitty friend that only takes, never gives.
