>>91212078>>91212099>>91212241>>91212309It's the internet, like unironically it's the internet that caused it. People have always throughout history bitched that society is losing its sense of community but it is actually different now. For one, the internet exposes people to crackpot beliefs they almost never would ever possibly think up in a world without one.
But more importantly, the internet feeds into our primitive monkey brain's need to feel accepted. Before, if you didn't fit in with your community, well then too fucking bad, you conformed or were ostracized, and in that sense the problem was solved. The internet bypasses that, makes it so that you aren't forced to compromise in order to be accepted by those who actually live around you, and retreat into an online, global community where you can find people who believe exactly the things you do and thus reinforce everything you want to think. And a global community inherently erodes local ones, and everyone here is helping perpetuate a problem that quite frankly can't go away unless we kill the internet and as a result isolate people again so that they have to be among those they physically live near. People say "societal change used to be extremely slow" and of course it was, they had so little contact with anyone else on a societal level that they had no pushback except internally or if they got invaded.
