A new bacteria was discovered on the wreck of the Titanic at the bottom of the ocean. This creature needs oxygen to live, but for some reason it has evolved to get it from something that is considerably more abundant on Mars: Rust.
How did it find the decaying hull of the Titanic to feed on its rust? Magnetoreception. It can sense magnetized iron and home in on it.
A few other creatures can do this, too. Sharks and birds. Birds are said to be the last surviving Dinos, and sharks are said to be the last surviving Guras. Birds have magnetite in their beaks that act as a compass.
Unsurprisingly, these magnetite-related abilities aren't all that common amongst modern Earth creatures. After all, only Mars is completely covered in magnetite to the point that you could easily navigate with just magnetoreception.
