It might be a bit too bright but that's why you keep tweaking things till something works just right I guess. I know you said you didn't wanna sear anybody's eyes but with the hair (or the face in general really) you kinda need it to pop out a bit.
of course, all this said this is just my opinion so whatever you prefer is what you should go for really.
