As far as jails go, I can’t see anything all that “permanent” other than temporary holding cells where criminals are kept while awaiting their punishment, however long that may be. I also thought of the idea of them not really having proper trials where the culprit in question is allowed to go in and testify before a jury or anything, nor are they represented by anyone ie a lawyer— Church officials get their story while they’re detained in a holding cell and proceed from there. Not a whole lot of rights for criminals— no right to a fair trial or a trial at all, as “trials” consist of just a bunch of the clergy sitting and talking amongst themselves about an appropriate punishment… I like to imagine the idea of “innocent until proven guilty” doesn’t exist either, if you’re arrested then you’re arrested and that’s that. I always like the Holy Kingdom as an image of brutality and rigid structure, but maybe that’s just me!
