I've always wondered if my casual racism made me more tolerant or less tolerant of others as a result of chatting, slurring, and being slurred at online in my formative years. Someone calling me a racial slur like spic doesn't even offend me, it feels endearing or funny I can't see it as an insult. Saying nigger or hearing it said to me still makes me chuckle. Do words only have as much meaning as the recipient of those words give it? Am I just apathetic or thick skinned?
