There is no way to appease everybody in the first place due to the fact that any "group" leaves out someone, but the only thing that could've/could be done to mitigate those complaints is preemptively announce the idea before actually going through with it. From an outsider's perspective, it would seem that (You) are being left behind on something, and everyone has varying degrees of FOMO.
