It could have been different tho, Mel ALMOST became a centerpiece of the "Pekomoona" arc (or what it would become it) when Pekora called her castle "a prison", and then gave her diamond as apology

Moona, on the other hand, pertty much forced herself into the box by camping the MC server, tagging along with EVERY girl she managed to (including the mostly inaccessible ones like Pekora, a recently returned Miko and even Sora) and making her presence known to as many of the fanbase as she could.
That's essentially why Moona inclined way past Mel even if the former was the run of ID branch from the start.
