Couple of things I observed from when they became "official" -
1. Immediately after the announcement, the subreddit was flooded by member posts. People new to Nijisanji now had 10-20 people saying "hello" on the subreddit without any idea who they were.
2. The "low memes" culture they initially had. Niji redditors used to be super elitist about not doing "low brow" memes, and considered that type of growth to be "not genuine".
The subreddit does seems to be growing nowadays due to NijiEN and the new audience they brought in.
