It's proven more effective to address the underlying reasons that push us to use, when you're really in it you know to just not say anything by default. I remind them "Keep staying strong" and "You don't need to be high to have a good time" etc, and when they or my family remind me it makes me hurt more than I can escape from. Most are lonely and survival-mode to the point of being unable to let themselves cry or love. And we all care about each other more than ourselves, which is a problem in its own.
