>>94871852I felt like TOTK had more to do, but the quality of things to do was lower and it made the experience less enjoyable. It adds the Depth, Sky Islands, caves, and dungeons, but none of those are upgrades from BOTW quality-wise. The Depths are just boring. It's an inverse of the surface world with less to do, recycled armor from BOTW, and a negligible reward for exploring it fully. In fact, the main reason to explore the depths is for the yiga hideouts, which give you blue prints to make building faster. Which seems like a concession from the developers that the building mechanic isn't very fun/takes too long. Some caves lead you to new shrines, which can be fun but most facilitate getting the Bubbul Gems which lets you interact with a worse version of monster parts trading from BOTW with an exclusive armor set that barely works. The Sky Islands are fun, and where I think the building mechanic shines the best since the game challenges you to find a way from island to island even across long distances and they have many of fun quests. But I don't think that carries the game overall. In BOTW I felt rewarded for exploring because there was always something to find with an interesting quest, fight, shrine, or whatever. In TOTK there's so much time spent waiting for the next interesting thing as you explore through Hyrule, the depth, sky islands, and caves that it all begins to feel like padding. Really what's the point of all that space if not much interesting is happening in it?
