For the anons talking about Sparda last thread, it's never said that he died.
He just stopped being mentioned at some point and that was the end of it. It never really gets elaborated on, but the general idea of the timeline is:
>a long time ago, Mundus ate the fruit of the Quiphoth and became the King of the Underworld and Earth
>Sparda eventually AWAKENS TO JUSTICE and defeats Mundus, separating the human world and the Underworld
>enough time passes for the story of Sparda to pass into legend, a religion to be formed around his legacy, and for people to largely forget about devils as a whole
>twenty five to twenty years before DMC3, Sparda falls in love with Eva and has twin children with her
At this point, Sparda just stops existing for the purposes of the game. They never say he left, but they explicitly list him as a casualty of the attack on Redgrave that Mundus sent to kill Eva, Dante and Vergil. He's just absent from there on out.
I like to think Vergil inherited the paternal instinct of Sparda.
