>>13564240>Is Nijisanji English intentionally all-female, or did it just end up like that? Not meaning to intentionally spread rrats, but it sure comes off suspicious how they didn't plan in any male talents for their first 3 waves released within a span of half a year. People were highly exited to see "the boys" with the dawn of Niji EN. But nothing came out of it and speculations started to rise left and right. All the go-to vtuber community outlets, this board included, were full of comments along the line of "Wait, there's no guys?", "Where are the guys? Will they come with the next wave?".
Pic related is the preview image they announced the first wave with and many were certain the distorted shapes you see in the background (circled in red) would hint the soon to follow second wave with the guys. Could it be a charismatic knight? A feminine type like Kanae? Or maybe a more relatable office worker bro like Yashiro? But nope. Nothing. It was Rosemi, Selen and Petra instead. The third wave, which the auditions were opened for a month (July 2021) before the debut of the second wave, already had a set line-up of character designs to which Anycolor only needed a bunch of fitting people for. However simultaneously with the auditions for said third wave, another second auditions got opened up, which is supposed to be an all-male one - the somewhat anticipated 4th wave, speculated to be released in December or early next year.
From a business perspective one could argue that going for all-female for the first wave could be reasonable as English male vtubers are pretty rare in the scene, moreso those who started out as such and found a bit of success in what they're doing. No one knows what exactly the reasons are. Lack of interest by the community? Lack of willing or interested people? Bad luck? Cultural preferences? I could see how going all-female with the first wave could help build a bit of a foundation and break the ice before they drop the big unknown thing into the crowd that is a corporate male EN vtuber. But 3 waves in, we never came this far.
From the perspective of someone who is already used to the concept of mixed waves or highly intrigued by it, it sure comes off as very weird that Anycolor went out of their way to deviate from their usual concept mixed with a portion of disappointment. And given how quickly they already rolled out the design previews for wave 3, before the debut of wave 2 even, which turned out to be all female too, one really has to wonder what went through their mind. And it leaves room for all the rrats. From lack of interest due to a non-existent visible male representation in the EN community to copying their competitors Hololive and going for easy profit (aka tailriding) to simply forgotten. We will probably never know unless one of the talents will spill the beans.
