Halloween has become a sad day for me, because I remember as a kid living in places where you could walk for literal miles, and not run out of houses to get candy from, and never being out of sight of at least 3 other groups of trick-or-treaters. Occasionally you hit up a house where the adult would dress up as a scare-crow and sit around on the porch, spooking the unsuspecting. I remember that, how much fun it was, and how I looked forward to returning that favor to the next generation...
I haven't seen more trick-or-treaters than I could count on my hands on any given halloween for the past ten years.
