a.) Primarily, people trying to be her saviorfag if they get the impression that the numbers of deadbeats are dwindling and they wanna compensate for that/get her attention out of a smaller pool.
b.) People having a circle-the-wagons moment around a chuuba they feel is under attack.
Both these things apply identically to Ayame as well. It's some complicated human psychology trickery at play. It doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't mock deadbeats for this stupidity any more than you might mock Nakirigumi for still being with her. The harder they try to overcompensate the MORE mockery they deserve, in fact, for displaying themselves as utter marks, rubes, sheep etc.
