She stomped off, leaving you dumbfounded at what had happened. Elira, at that point in time, had casually waltzed into the kitchen, giving you an admonishing look at the same time.
“You better go apologize to her, Anon.” She said. “She still has feelings, you know. Whether you realize it or not.”
You sighed and hung your head, and sauntered up the stairs to her room. There you heard sniffles and the occasional frustrated grunt.
“Stupid Anon. Stupid stupid stupid stupid!”
At that moment, you doubted what you should have done, but eventually decided that your friendship with her was more important than a silly argument. You knocked on the door and announced your entry, before opening the door.
There, you saw a sight that almost broke your heart. Selen was seated on her bed, hunched over, arms wrapped around her knees. Her earwings perked as you entered, but she still refused to turn to you. Slowly, you climbed onto the bed and approached her.
“Selen, I’m sorry for what I said just now.” You began. She still refused to look at you.
“I-I shouldn’t have said those things to you, Selen. No matter what it is, I don’t want to lose you because you’re my best friend,” you sighed, still confused at why she was acting this way. Selen, however, had turned her head to you, eyes watery.
“You’re b-best friend?” She squeaked. “Is that all I am to you?”
Your eyes had widened in shock, as you quickly start to realize what she had meant. Of course, she was your friend, your best friend. But at the same time, you couldn’t deny you may have had some sort of feelings towards her since you met her again.
You remember grabbing her by her shoulders, and looking deep into her eyes. God, those eyes. Even though they glistened with tears that had yet to fall, they shone with a beauty that was simply breathtaking. You remember how she let out a soft squeal before her eyes darted everywhere, unwilling to make eye contact with you. And you remember how your feelings blossomed in that moment, with the words you said to her,
“Selen, I know this might ruin our relationship, but I need to know. Do you… want to be more than friends?”
At that point in time, you also wanted to beat yourself up for saying such a dumb choice of words, but what’s said had been said.
Selen answered you with silence, and you were afraid that she was going to reject you, or worse, laugh at you. But as you turned your head to look at her, all you saw was a beautiful, vulnerable, and lovely girl.
“You… You like me?” She mouths softly as a single tear falls from her amethyst eye. You removed one of your hands from her shoulder and wiped the tear away, before placing it against her cheek.
And this is where you ended up, with the girl you just confessed to nuzzling her cheek into your palm, and your heart beating insanely fast within your chest. You can’t believe it, you had just confessed your feelings to Selen. Your mind races, still trying to process the words that came out of your own mouth and hers.
“Selen I-“ You start as you pull your hand away from her. She whimpers as you do so, and you had to hold back the urge to put your hand back where it should be. Instead, you place both of your hands within hers, stroking her palm and fingers. You take a deep breath, before saying;
“Selen. I like you. I really do. I think you’re one of the coolest people I know, and we’ve had so many great moments together. And… I hope we can share even more moments together.”
“You r-really think so?” She mouths, a tremble in her voice. “You’re alright with a girl like me, who can’t even stick to being either a tomboy or a girly girl?” You squeeze her hands and smile once more.
“Selen, in the wise words of Shrek, people are like onions. They have layers.” You say, both as a joke and to make a serious point.
And there it was, her laughter. Her sweet, sweet laughter. One that you had grown up with, and one that you hoped to keep hearing as you became old and wrinkly. You look into her eyes once more, drinking in deeply this moment that you hoped to become forever. Once her laughter died down, you put your hand against her cheek once more, making her look at you. Her eyes dart all over once more, and the pink on her cheeks deepen to maroon as she blushes like a fair maiden.
Slowly, you push your face towards hers. Your hand against her cheek was slack, so that if she didn’t want to, she could pull away whenever. But she didn’t. Instead, she closes her eyes and lets you come closer. And finally, your lips meet. It was salty, yet sweet. Boyish, yet also girlish. Your first kiss, your forever kiss. You loved this woman, and you promise yourself one day you’ll make her your wife.
