>>972726441-2 Had charm and a lot of cool ideas especially stuff like seasons and other preparation and hunting simulation elements, just didn't have the solid foundation for a fun combat loop yet with a lot of very simple weapons and not fantastic controls... FU through GU (some minor problems here, very arcadey and monsters weren't really equipped to deal with it, but fantastic roster and still a good level of challenge overall) were great, World was good but started the end hunting simulation and had some really bad mechanical stuff that takes away from the action focus game ideas they were going for, but still worth playing. Rise is good for arcadey gameplay, getting right into hunting with friends, has amazing traversal mechanics in the worldvand is fun but solidified the end of hunting simulation the devs originally went for, Wilds is a good framework but marred by a lot of problems that reduce the interesting aspects of many weapons and also has the same problems of the monsters not being able to keep up with the hunters who have gotten massive buffs, worse maps, a meaningless open world that contributes nothing to the gameplay, and nothing to do quite quickly into it's gameplay cycle. The new games are good for a power fantasy but they're boring and lack meaningful progression or actual challenge as a result. Friends have all dropped out after finishing current endgame grinds and even the biggest glazers are highlighting the problems at this point, like Gaijin Hunter and ProJared. I think 3U and 4U are the best games overall in the series. Some of the new QoL stuff (such as not having breakable mining picks or bug nets) has been great since the new games too, but I like to be balanced in my views on things and don't glaze them just because they're new and shiny.
