To want to be a clown, you have to have some mix of autism, silliness, a confident and outgoing demeanor, and a strong desire to make other people happy. This alone already makes their personalities appealing, but a clown can be quite a complex cocktail, and the reasons and causes for such behavior depend on the individual, especially if they're real or entirely fictional. Speaking in terms of the former on a general basis however, clowning is often used in some part as a literal mask to cover up or compensate for various forms of being broken as a person, or generally just being menhera. The degrees to which vary wildly and can even go beyond Hello Kitty Girl levels of menhera, but as a whole this makes them someone who needs you as much as you need them. A mutually assured case of turning that frown upside down. :)
As for the design aspect of clowns, well, there's a whole bunch of stuff going on. Bright colors, fluffy hair, the big red nose that contrasts and frames the face to be even cuter, etc.. All stuff that can be applied to basically every kind of template, from big to small, from modest to sex. All stuff that stands way out from everything around it, which that alone can be enough to stimulate one's lizard brain, like we're fucking peacocks or some shit.
Then lastly as for the sex part, with how silly and potentially fantastical they may be in nature, there's a high comorbidity with tons of other fetishes. Admittedly most of these are in the hyper BBW inflation /d/ realm, which SUCKS major hiney if you aren't that much of an autistic coomer, but there's still a bunch of fun fantasies to be had, which I don't feel like recycling here since I'm sure people have seen the screencaps and copypastas about it already. But really all you need is the previous two categories to want to lovingly annihilate some clussy.
