the equivalent for a human figure would be looking at a gesture sketch vs a fully rendered figure, skipping all the steps in the middle. break it down, it's all shapes. yeah, you have to know anatomy to draw from imagination, and a bunch of other stuff, but "knowing" the shaped of the deltoid is entirely different from "knowing" how to portray that shape at a different orientation
