>>3252875To be fair, as a Malay, even Bahasa Melayu has their own level of politeness, called bahasa biasa/standard (citizen speak) and bahasa istana (royal speak).
That being said, bahasa istana and bahasa biasa aren't that different to each other since bahasa istana is more like a Malay language but with archaic words and not as abundant and different as Javanese form of language. Even nowadays, our royalties don't really speak with bahasa istana unless in formal event. All the Sultans in Malaysia call themselves as 'saya' (I) than 'beta' (we as in royal we) in interviews and informal event.
