>>35672080Thank you! I did consider the effect that dark construction materials would have on temperature, but I made the judgement call that figuratively cool was more important than literally cool, the volcanic basalt aesthetic just fit too well with the chuuni vibe. I didn't expound upon it
because this was already one of the longest single chapters I've written, but my thought is that Moriji cities in these moist low lands would have a lot of channels, ponds, fountains and canals all over the place, which would reduce temperature a bit through evaporative cooling (it's a real thing!
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/356384960_Evaporative_cooling_strategies_in_urban_areas_The_potential_of_vertical_greening_systems_to_reduce_nocturnal_heat_stress). Architecture would probably have a lot more whites, beiges and light browns on the drier East coast, where basalt and evaporative cooling would both be less accessible. I was happy with the shrine description, so I'm glad to hear that!
My thought is that Tosklo's been on Moriji for a few years, so as you say, the Deadbeats' affectionate manners might have rubbed off on her somewhat... You know, the "off to college" effect kek.
