There are design principles that emerged during that time due to the limitations of the hardware that shaped the design principles of today. There is something inherently interesting about that. I really don't think games have ever looked better than they did during the SNES/Genesis era, because the adolescence of not just the hardware but the industry itself were a breeding ground for creativity and experimentation. SNES was before my time btw so it isn't nostalgia, and I like all eras of games + currently feel like we're living in the best era for games.
