>>47312774>>47312892Think you guys are misreading the situation, people aren't actually taking offense to it. If anything it's a point of endearment. The ERA on Leopards has been a long-running joke since before they got them
What gets people's goat is when you put ERA on something that can't handle it. Pic very related. An ERA brick going off is like a sledgehammer in both directions, the vehicle needs to be built to handle it.
>>47313068Kind of? The specific bricks being used are Kontakt-1. Specific types of ERA can impede solid armor-piercing ammo, but Kontakt-1 isn't one of those. It's designed for Shaped charge ammunition like HEAT, but isn't effective against tandem-charged HEAT ammo.
That being said, there are quite a lot of single-charge ATGMs on the field, so they might actually save a few tanks from those, specifically. Anything else though, it's dead weight really. I believe the Leopard 2 can take a 3BM42 dart (the most common anti-tank ammunition used by russian tanks) from the front anyway, so that's not a problem. Twin-charge HEAT will be a problem, ERA or not.
