The magitech cannon essentially works as a very crude magic lens, focusing the magic energy into a smaller volume while the activated chuubanite amplifies it. That's why it's shaped like a cone instead of a cylinder. I think allowing something akin to Vitium optics would definitely open up a lot of creativity for magic related-things later down the line.
So now that we've established wave transport basics, let's talk about the Vitium Refractive Index.
Proposal:
The VRI is the ratio of the speed of a conceptual wave in the vacuum over its speed in a given material.
This speed is driven by the Magical Susceptibility of the material, which is a measure of how much the wave disturbs (and thus is slowed down by) the Vitubium it comes in close proximity to. Higher Vitubium density results in higher susceptibility, thus a higher VRI.
The VRI will drive the angle of refraction of the wave as it changes medium, and how much it interacts with the medium.
