It'd be different if you didn't know, for the bible tells us he who doesn't believe and was made aware of the good news will have it worse than he who was not made aware.
What's your happiness when you know your soul could be required of you any day now? It'd be too late by then, so why waste time being happy while condemned rather than fearful looking for a way out?

We broke the law and, as a judge, God will look at our sins and give us our judgment in wages, which the bible(the Word of God) tells us is death. If we recognise the weight of our sin and are seeking forgiveness then the Judge Himself will come down and treat us with mercy, not simply taking death off us, but paying our wages for us by going through the death that we, as law breakers, deserve.
In Christ we can stop worrying about hell, since we are saved from it and are promised everlasting life in paradise where there will be no more death, pain, suffering, hurt, disease, death and so on
You could have infinite peace and happiness now that you'd be free from the shackles of death and of the world!
