Ok so I have a rrat. Aikatsu Academy was discovered by fans through trademark registration roughly a month before the announcement. There were four character names registered, but as we know there's only three idols. There were also four VAs recruited through an audition, all of them are from HoriPro but also only three debuted. I think one of them might resigned or left the project behind the scene.
