It definitely sounds like its the motherboard, which isn't cheap but also isn't the most expensive thing to replace since the other stuff should all be salvageable to transfer over. Unless its one of those prebuilds where the cpu is attached directly to the board for some god awful reason.
Who am I kidding though, she's going to drop 2k-3k on an all new prebuild.
