Something similar happened to my brother a few years ago. There's a state law where he lives that requires drivers to declare if they have a firearm in the car if they are stopped by an officer. He told them it was in the glove box, and the officer was so impressed that he knocked $50 off of the $100 speeding ticket. Apparently people usually forget to do that.
