In my experience as a mexican otaku, aside from particularly shitty cosplays, people at animecons look normal more often than not, some girls are very attractive even.
I stopped going to these cons a few years ago because the entrance fees were getting to high for how litle there is to do actually do there, and because being 25, I started to feel like I was too old to be in these places once I noticed that, aside from people selling shit and the more professional cosplayers, 90% of the people there were middle/high schoolers.
