You have to be acquainted with or at least have spent time in a big American city to get the humor of GTA. Advertisements on every corner and everyone being a walking stereotype who exists to either piss you off or get in your way.
I couldn't begin to explain a place like San Andreas to a non-american if they haven't been to California and some of the small towns surrounding San Diego. The humor of being able to walk into a gunstore after pedaling there on your bike in heavy freeway traffic because there are no bike lanes to buy an assault rifle two doors down from a dollar store and a Donut shop is utterly lost on someone who has lived in Europe all of her life.
