-dice half an onion, a couple tomatoes and as much bacon as you like, usually i use like 4 slices of thick bacon per cup of lentils
-saute on butter until the tomatoes get all mushy
-add diced bacon and let the fat render
-ideally you already have a cup of lentils and 3 cups of water on the stove beginning to simmer
-add the stuff we saute on the pan into the pot and mix
-add salt and black pepper to your liking, usually a teaspoon of salt is just enough.
and let it cook on high heat for 40 minutes or 60 on medium. it depends on the texture you want your lentils to be.
